New directions for the Spiritual Renewal Committee The Spiritual Renewal Committee is moving in some new directions. We are planning a Conference-wide Opening Doors retreat for October 2009. In the meantime, we will be hosting a series of mini-workshops on various spirituality topics to be held in various churches in Associations of the Ohio Conference. Some activities are ongoing. Day with God and Self will be held September 20, November 12, March 14 and May 6 at Prettyman Center at Pilgrim Hills. Seeking a Spiritual Director? These workshops are offered by the Spiritual Renewal Task Force of the Ohio Conference. If you are interested in scheduling a workshop for your congregation or group, please contact the leader listed with the event. Please note: An honorarium is not necessary for workshops given by Association or Conference staff. For other leaders, mileage and honorarium are appropriate and negotiable.

Spirituality and Life Issues Workshops

Worship As Pastoral Care
Henry W. Bruner (440-322-9749)

Carkuff has stated that the values of warmth, genuineness and empathy enable persons to change during therapy. In this two-hour workshop, participants will be invited to explore how these values might be expressed in self-designed worship services.

Henry is an ordained minister in the UCC and active in the spiritual renewal movement.

Small Group Spirituality
Janet Burkhart (330-682-3791)

Available for small group spiritual formation with a focus on journal writing, body prayer, and guided meditation.

Janet, who has recently completed the Group Leaders Program at Shalem Institute in Maryland, is the Christian Education Director at Trinity UCC in Wooster, and a member of the Eastern Ohio Association Spiritual Working Group.

Everywhere...Everywhere
Jenny Geib (330-343-4210)

Everywhere..Everywhere is a retreat for teens or adults who want to explore and experience spiritual practices that can be incorporated into everyday schedules and can nurture a growing relationship with a loving, everywhere god. The suggested schedule for this worship retreat is 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. However, it can be scheduled to meet individual needs.

A day-long retreat offering an opportunity for individual and group spiritual guidance. This retreat, which is held at Pilgrim Hills Camp and Conference Center near Brinkhaven, Ohio, is offered four times a year. About Spiritual Companions or Directors ...

A spiritual companion or director is one who assists another in tending to or noticing the presence of God in his or her life, in deepening one's connections to God and one's awareness of the Holy. In addition, when life gets complicated, when crises, challenges or questions of faith arise, spiritual companions can be a welcomed presence. They attend to the individual's faith journey, helping to "see" where God is at work and where God might be leading.
