Criteria for Make a Difference Grants

Make a Difference Endowment Fund Members of the congregations of the Ohio Conference participated in a United Church of Christ national endowment campaign to secure funds for mission in the future. Those members who gave generously made possible an Ohio Conference Make a Difference (MAD) Endowment Fund. 2005 is the sixth year that earnings from the Fund have been made available. MAD endowment funds available for grants in 2006 total approximately $15,200. This amount is determined by taking 5% of the rolling average within the total amount of the fund over a three-year period. Because of the limited amount available for distribution, only applications for $2,500 or less will be considered. Grants will be divided among the three areas listed below, with no less than 20% and no more than 50% of the annual income from the endowment allocated to each of the three areas.	OC Home Page

Purposes of the Make a Difference Grants

The purposes for the Fund are to assist with:

Special Needs of Church Leaders

Income from the endowment will be used to develop lay leadership essential to the church's life, especially in the areas of:

Christian Education
Stewardship
Official church leadership

A portion of the endowment income will also be used to nurture professional leadership:

Scholarships and loans for students
Salary subsidies for small membership churches
Grants to address crises among church professionals and provide career counseling

Special Needs of Churches

Income will be used to provide sorely needed funds to help churches in our Conference cope with a broad range of problems including:

Support for declining churches
Helping churches deal with conflict
Assisting in the purchase of sites for strategic new church development
Granting funds to needy churches for capital improvements on a revolving loan fund basis at reasonable interest
Strengthening the Outdoor Ministry Program of the Ohio Conference through camperships and continued development of facilities and programs

Special Needs of Communities (local and regional)

Income will enable the Conference to provide a wide range of community-oriented needs:

Supporting the ministries of "mission partners" identified by each Association
Underwriting the special needs of United Church of Christ educational, health and human service ministries related to the Ohio Conference
