"Seek Justice, Love Kindness and Walk Humbly with your God."
                                                                      Micah 6:8

Everywhere you turn, people continue to suffer from hunger, poverty, war, and injustice. The state of the world can lead us into despair, but God provides us the "light" to see us through the "darkness" by offering us a life based on love and selfless community. This requires us to work together to seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God.

If you are in Grades 6-8, come learn what it means to "seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God" through:

  • Worship

  • Games

  • Fellowship with other UCC youth

  • Local mission project (Newark Shelter)

  • Understanding the issues that impact the world and what we as Christians are called to do to help.

Local Church Events

A Fiesta Dinner will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM at North Congregational UCC, Columbus to benefit their June mission trip to Nicaragua.

The evening will include wonderful food representative of Nicaragua, warm fellowship, and an entertaining and informative program based on experiences from the 2008 trip to Project Chacocente.

This remarkable program is changing the lives of families who once lived on the Managua dump.  Now ten families live in cement block homes they built, have a school for their children, have learned to read, write, gained construction and agricultural skills, and have learned to work together.

During the trip in June, the group expects to work with families in the project to expand their school.

The suggested donation for the evening is $10 per person.  Reservations may be made with Susan Kinzer at 614-451-1835 or skinzer@midohio.twcbc.com.

Creating the Beloved Community:
Service honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sunday, January 17, 5 p.m.
North Congregational UCC, Columbus

The Columbus Area Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began its celebration of the Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. holiday at the Broad Street Christian Church in 2008; the second celebration was held at the Karl Road Christian Church in 2009 with several United Church of Christ persons present.  Speakers have been African-American leaders well informed about the King movement and its message of Justice, Peace and Racial inclusivity.

North Congregational UCC will host this year’s service, with clergy, lay leaders and choirs from seven area congregations participating.  The Rev. Dr. Eric Brown, senior pastor of Woodland Christian Church (DOC) will preach.  Worship begins at 5 PM.  A full-menu reception will follow.  Childcare is provided—please phone ahead your need (614.451.1835).  The building is fully accessible with plenty of off-street parking.

The Ecumenical Concerns Committee of Central Southeast Association, comprised equally of Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ representatives, believes this event and its great cause to be a most important way our two denominations can celebrate Dr. King's heritage and live out our partnership.  Welcome to this, our third service.
